The 2026 Barts Health Heroes
There were two winners from Whipps Cross Hospital.
Sujatha Thamban, consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology, and divisional director for Women and Children won the WeLead individual award. She has led a remarkable transformation in the Women and Children division.
Bracken Ward, the Hospital Palliative Care Team and the Transport Team won the Living Our Values team award. This remarkable group went above and beyond to fulfil a patient’s final wish to return home to Scotland to be near family. Their coordination and compassion ensured the journey was safe, dignified and centred entirely on the patient’s comfort. One staff member travelled with the patient all the way to St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie, offering support every step of the way. An extraordinary act of teamwork, humanity and care.
There were also eight teams and individuals from Whipps who were nominated included a midwife, who while on holiday abroad, met a distressed woman showing signs of preterm labour. She cut her trip short to return with the pregnant woman to London, ensuring the safety of both mother and baby,
