Draft Local Plan Consultation

October 12, 2020

The London Borough of Waltham Forest are hosting a face-to-face event in North Chingford where residents can share their views on  the sites which may be regenerated as part of the Local Plan.

There’s a number of sites in North Waltham Forest identified for regeneration.

Council Planning Policy officers will be at North Chingford Market, Station Road, Chingford, E4 7BE on Saturday 17 October 2020, 10am to 4pm.

Social distancing rules will apply.

If you can’t make this event sign up for one of the virtual meetings taking place for residents in North Waltham Forest.

Last summer, residents gave the Council more than 2,000 comments on the Draft Local Plan leading to a 730 page document on line with each comment having an individual response from the Council.

These were published online in June 2020 in a 730 page document in which each comment had an individual response from the Council.

A key question raised was where might redevelopment take place.

The Council have answered this in an additional Part 2 of the Local Plan, the Site Allocations document, which was published on Thursday 24 September 2020 for public comment.

The Council have identified 65 key sites across the borough and assessed how this land could best be used to meet the needs of local people.

As well as building around 19,000 new, high-quality homes during the next 15 years the Council are looking at where new health hubs, schools, parks, open spaces, transport interchanges and community facilities will be needed.

The inclusion of a site does not mean that its existing amenities would be lost, rather they would be enhanced, expanded or improved. Any proposals to develop a site would still need to apply for planning permission and achieve a high quality of design.

The Site Allocations document can be downloaded online. Printed copies will be available for reading at all open libraries in the borough and at The Magistrates, Forest Road, Walthamstow. E17 4NX.

The Council wants your views on the Site Allocations proposed.

The deadline for comments to reach the Council is Monday 14 December 2020,

The consultation work will once again cover North, Central and South Waltham Forest so people living in each of the three areas will be able to focus on where they live.

  • The easiest, and safest, way to share your views is using our online survey form which captures exactly what you said on each site.
  • Write to the Council with your views. Please type or write clearly, as some handwriting last year was not easily read and they want to properly capture your views.

If you have questions:

  • The Council are trialling some face to face drop-in events to see how they work. Staff will be maintaining social distancing as they as wearing protective face coverings to meet current health and safety advice.
  • There will also be a series of virtual meetings held where the Council’s Planning Policy Team will be available to answer questions.

To enable them to plan for these events the Council  ask that you register your interest in the meetings you wish to attend.
