Horrendous

June 24, 2021
My Stepfather was admitted for end of life lung cancer. He was not assessed properly, had his call button taken way, had his oxygen unplugged, not given his medication that was prescribed for him. Was callously told we don't want a death in here tonight when he had a problem one night. They wouldn't help him with severe sores on the top of his ears caused by the oxygen tube. They were horrible to us and would not communicate properly with us when we tried to get help for him. They ignored the fact he was dying. He was in there for a week and that last week of his life was hell and torture for us too, he begged us to get him out as he didn't want to die in there. They said they were making arrangements but didn't, we had to, this wasted valuable time. When he was brought home they never sent his drug with him. I had to waste time getting them rather than be with him. They changed his doctor without consent or informing us, so when we got time home he had been cut off from the support hub. No rapid response or district nurse help!! He had a horrendous death that night, that my mother and I will never get over witnessing. All he wanted was to die peaceful and not suffocate. And thanks to them he didn't. They took away his dignity too.
They have admitted to all this and said they have learnt lessons etc this and their apologies don't help us and seeing as they can't apologise to him is pointless.
