Made to cry by admin and staff

February 10, 2024
111 told me to head to the urgent care centre which I did. The screener derided me after my urine was samples saying I should not have come and that my issue was not urgent (going so far as to say 'the clue is in the name). A horrid experience.

Whipps UCC...I spoke too soon!

Accident and emergency services
September 3, 2023
Following my 5 star visit to Whipps Cross/Barts Urgent care centre last Bank Holiday, I had to return due to complications...the experience I had was so much different to the previous visit, and on par with those comments reported below.

Once again I had to go through the pre-screening process in A&E, but this time I was 'patronsied' by a nurse screener who saw me simply as a) someone [thing?] that needed to be processed, and b) someone who could be patronised as surely they wouldn't have any understanding of how their body works [not the case]. Following this cursory 'inspection' I was assigned a GP phone consultation; since when has it been possible to look at signs/symptoms over a telephone?
The GP phone conversation was no better with many 'If and buts' based upon the fact that the GP couldn't see the symptoms and so couldn't be sure; there appears to be a running theme here regarding effective health provision?, with the onus being place on the patient to take responsibility for any actions although they lack the medical training required, even with the suggestion that they "Look up on the internet and make a decision". Further due to my GP/health care centres location it was stated any tests would need to be done by another Trust and so they couldn't be offered here; since when has National [as in NHS] meant regional?

Whilst I agree it is important for the individual to be responsible for their own health and take responsibility for any decisions that need to be taken, this needs to be supported with adequate information and guidance, in this case it was severely lacking. The only 'saving grace' in this process was the waiting time was short [I have scored this low so that the average grade is kept low], but for the assistance provided not visiting would have been as effective [the reason such an approach is now being taken by NHS Trusts?] but less inconvenient.

If health care [and the taxation it depends on] is now based upon a simple five minute paperwork processing and a telephone consultation, then the sooner a reduction in NHS National Insurance contributions are made [and the onus of private medical insurance/care is put into the hands of the individual customer] the better...at least this way when poor service is received it won't be rewarded, and so ultimately will be purged from the system.

Whipps Urgent Care Drop-In centre

Urgent GP clinic
August 28, 2023
Knowing the majority of feedback is often negative I thought I would post my positive experience for a change, having had to visit Barts/Whipps Cross Urgent Care walk-in centre today due to the Bank Holiday meaning my GP was closed.

Initial registering was a bit convoluted [GO TO A&E FIRST] requiring pre-screening at A&E [hectic] before being accepted at UCC, although there is no mention of this anywhere. Once registered [and in the UCC system] the process was efficient, with basic tests performed within 20 minutes. There was then a longer wait due to some tests having to be processed [~2hrs], before being able to see a doctor/receive treatment. Unfortunately these tests physically take time to process so there is no way around this delay however efficient the team are. This said, from arrival to departure was only 3 hours; I really do not believe this could have been reduced any further.

During this waiting time I was able to observe the nature of the medical team; a variety of professionals/nationalities, and how they dealt with a variety of 'customers', some patients more poorly [and so more agitated] than others. In all cases I observed both professional and caring treatment, and felt compelled to write this feedback upon my return home to add 'balance' to the other comments here.

I appreciate they get paid/'are only doing their job', but they were seen to be doing it well and showing a level of conscientiousness that is commendable, especially in these times where the NHS is often open to criticism by various 'factions' trying to undermine it.

Please feed this back and thank your team for their hard work.

POOR HYGIENE /POOR COMMUNICATION/UNNECESSARY

Accident and emergency services
March 17, 2022
WHEN I VISITED AT AROUND 11am, I WAS ASKED TO FAST BY THE 111 GP. 7 HRS LATER, WAITING AND WITH NO NURSE COMPETENT TO GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION. I SELF DISCHARGED BECAUSE I WAS HUNGRY AND I HAD HAD SEEN ENOUGH AS ASSESSMENT WINDOWS, WALLS, CHAIRS AND THE WHOLE A&E WAS VERY DIRTY AND STAINED.
NURSES DO NOT KNOW WHEN BLOOD RESULTS COME BACK. A MEDICAL DOCTOR ASSESSED ME BUT DID NOT DOCUMENT FOR OTHER COLLEAGUES. A SURGICAL FEMALE DOCTOR WHO SAW ME, PROMISED ME A CT SCAN RE; BLOCKAGE BUT HOURS LATER NURSES SAID THAT THERE WAS NO REQUEST DONE FOR A CT.
UN NECESSARY BLOODS TAKEN WITH CANNULATIONS WHICH WAS NOT REQUIRED.

I wouldn’t even give this place a ONE STAR.

Accident and emergency services
November 19, 2021
Since attended this hospital my condition has got 100X worse. I suffer with scoliosis and attended the hospital at 11:59 via taxi as the ambulance was taking long and I couldn’t wait I had lost all sensation in my toes and legs I was left in the waiting area for over 8 hours without being seen baring in my mind I had made them aware I feel like I’m getting worse and i suffer with scoliosis so I can’t sit up for to long I was ignored! At 3am I was then seen by a doctor when I mumbled to myself “thank you god” the doctor responded “I wouldn’t get to excited” absolutely disgusting attitude from all staff. I even over heard reception staff calling patients “assoles” and that he only came because he was worried about his sperm referring to him as a silly boy in front of me and other patients a msn was left in a wheelchair while having seizures and reception staff just sat there this was horrid to watch and then to get treated as if I didn’t matter on top of seeing all that was terrible. After been seen by the doctor BRIEFLY I was left in the corridor on a met chair where I started to get back pain and cramps I told the doctor she didn’t care only gave me co-dromal when I asked after when she was finally in sight then left me there after I explain the chairs are causing me pain and I was not seen untill after 7am by the day shift doctor I have been bed bound since not been able to see my kids or wash myself all due to the fact of my needs being ignored I found my trip pointless as all that happened in the end of for them to tell me my nerves are pinching and I should continue taking my meds now I’m suffering more than I was when I first went in that place

5 stars for medical services but only one for registration and general covid procedures and questions.

April 20, 2021
On my GP's recommendation, I went to A&E a couple of days ago. I was shocked as it was far too crowded and no one taking temperatures. Even when I was registering I wasn't asked if I had any covid symptoms. The security guard on the door looked more interested in his phone than looking to see if people were wearing masks correctly or even at all. The system was run smoothly though having spent just under 3 hours there including 2 consultations and an xray. That part was faultless but it's no good letting people in with covid symptoms. I would give 5 starts for medical services but only one for registration and general covid procedures and questions.
