Thursday 23rd November is Carers Rights Day.

With Winter around the corner, empowering patients to manage their care and reduce missed appointments will have a big impact in reducing pressures on our hospitals.

Last Winter, nearly 80,000 people didn’t attend their hospital appointment at one of Barts Health’s five hospitals which includes Whipps Cross Hospital. This can cause people to wait longer for their own appointments and the NHS estimates that every missed appointment costs £30.

Barts Health is working closely with two other acute trusts across north east London to pool resources in order to meet the national target to ensure that no-one is waiting more than 15 months for treatment by next April.

Winter is a time of increased pressure as cold weather affects people with existing health conditions and illnesses like flu and Covid-19 spread. As an integrated care system, NHS North East London are continuously working to build up resilience and plan for how to respond to periods of increased demand.

The Patients’ Forum for the London Ambulance Service have organised an online event with Dr Fionna Moore who has more than 40 years experience in the NHS including an outstanding period as both Medical Director and Chief Executive of the London Ambulance Service, from 5.30pm to 7pm on Monday 13th November.

The report presents the outcomes of interviews conducted with care home residents and staff members. The aim of these interviews was to explore their perspectives on the implementation and impact of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach to care for less capable residents.
The interviews were designed to gain insights into residents’ and staff members’ observations, experiences, and opinions. The focus of the interviews was to understand the changes that have occurred due to the MDT approach and how it has affected the care provided to less capable residents.
