Patients and public need urgent reassurance on NHS winter crisis and recovery

January 9, 2023

Healthwatch England (HWE) have released a statement on the current winter pressures facing the NHS.

HWE are concerned that recent coverage days showing the NHS at breaking point will exacerbate already-low public confidence that people can get urgent and emergency care when they need it most.

HWE are also concerned that current winter pressures are further eroding trust in services being able to provide timely care and calls for immediate NHS action plan.

Plans need to be backed up by urgent government injection of unrestricted funds into hospital discharge schemes to help “stranded patients” get home and free up thousands of beds for new, seriously unwell patients.
