Please attend your NHS breast screening appointment

October 25, 2022

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, North East London Cancer Alliance is encouraging people in Waltham Forest (and the other boroughs that make up the North East London area) to take up the offer of breast screening and make an appointment, even if they received their invite weeks or months ago.

Our local provider is the Central and East London Breast Screening Service based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in Central London. See their web page here for information. They have mobile screening units at Leyton Mills Retail Park and at the Sir Ludwig Guttmann Health Centre which is near the Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford.  It is also possible to attend other screening centres in and out of London e.g. St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping by calling and asking to be referred. For other areas in London see the NHS Breast Screening Programme in London web page. You can also watch this animated breast screening video to find out more.

The NHS is also asking people of all ages to be aware of their breast health and to know how to check themselves for breast cancer symptoms. Being ‘breast aware’ means getting to know how your breasts look and feel at different times and telling your doctor straight away if you notice any unusual changes.
