St Bartholomew’s Hopsital is 900 years old

St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust who run Whipps Cross Hospital, is 900 years old. Its official birthday was March 25. It was founded in 1123 by Rahere, a courtier of Henry I.

To mark the 900th anniversary, Barts Health have launched the Barts900 campaign: a series of landmark fundraising projects across heritage, health care and research which together promise to transform treatments for its east London communities

Priceless artefacts from throughout the history of Barts Health’s east London hospitals are in safe hands after their archives service secured national accreditation. The archives cared for by Barts Health are amongst the largest and most important hospital collections in the country.
